And what a day it was. A bit of overnight rain softened things, and there was absolutely no wind. This equals players going deep. Really deep. Marc Leishman was one of those, and was 7 under for the day as we walked in.
Leish was playing with Marcus Fraser, so a good Aussie group.
Marc holed this putt on the last for a 64, and the clubhouse lead at 9 under.
The birdies kept flowing, and by the end of play Jason Day was tied for the lead on 12 under, along with the 2010 (at St. Andrews) Champion Louis Oosthuisen, and Irish amateur Paul Dunne.
Jordan Spieth is just one shot behind, in his attempt to continue the bid for a grand slam. There are four Australians in the top 15.
We were also fortunate enough today to get a look inside here. The TaylorMade tour truck.
These trucks travel to each tournament, and provide equipment assistance (altering specifications, and delivering new equipment) to all of the TaylorMade players. The club here on the bench is a back up driver for Jason Day. Jason had a bit of an incident last night with the press, and his caddy, Col Swatton, was knocked down by a car. Col was OK, but there was concern that Jason's driver was damaged.
Luke from TaylorMade built a new one with matching specs, ready if the current "gamer" was not quite right.
This is Jason's "gamer", his driver that is in play. Peter Lucas gave this club his blessing, and clearly it worked OK today.
Just a few shaft options available to the players!!Luke is answering questions from the group, discussing ball speed with Michael Merrett.
Luke showing the variability options with Jason's driver.
Clevo, they even made a driver for you at our request, in an attempt to get you across from Callaway!
A really special experience, and a big thank you to Luke and TaylorMade for the opportunity.
Tomorrow we head to Gullane, the site of last week's Scottish Open won by Rickie Fowler, then make our way to Turnberry (after watching Jason win the Open of course!!)
