The Open Championship Rnd 2

Everyone had been studying the draw for round two, and had their movements planned based upon our arrival time.  It was expected to be wet at St. Andrews today, and we woke to find that 15mm of rain had fallen within half an hour, at around 6.30am.

This reminded me of the day we played here in 2012, when 3 inches of rain fell in the 4 hours we were out playing. Needless to say, play was suspended, and all starting times were pushed back until 10am. This meant an approximately 3 hour difference in timing, and ruined all of our calculations.
It did mean that members were able to now catch all of Adam Scott's round, but were only able to see a couple of holes from Jason Day.

This was the view looking back across the 18th fairway toward the 1st green, at 1pm.  Still quite a lot of casual water was present, and the valley of sin looked more like a moat of sin.
Championship Days at the Open, like any other tournament, are camera free days.  The blue coats (marshalls) seemed to less concerned this year, so I snapped a few sneaky pics on my phone.  (I Hope Rhodri is not reading this!)

The view from behind the 17th tee.  We were still quite some time away from any players reaching this hole so maybe that made it easier.

Looking toward the 17th green from near the Old Course Hotel.

A near empty grandstand behind the 18th.  The moat had dried out by this stage.

Looking back across from the rear of the 18th green.

Billy Horschel practicing his putting (at 4.00pm) before teeing off.

Webb Simpson doing likewise.  Webb was rolling putts to and from the far ends of the putting green.  Shortly after this, he hit two putts from the far end, to the hole just behind him.
The first finished 4 inches away, the second lipped out.  Pretty impressive.

The West Sands beach, which runs alongside the course, showcasing some of the seagulls.  These are no ordinary seagulls.  The gulls in Scotland are huge, not only picking up chips with their beaks, but small children are in danger as well!!!

St. Andrews said goodbye to two legends of the game today.  The first was Sir Nick Faldo.  Nick donned the pullover he wore to victory in 1990, and fired a final ever round of 71 to match his final round score from his victory in 1990.  Wow the early nineties were an awful time for fashion!

Five time champion, Tom Watson, also waved to the crowd from the top of the Swilcan bridge for the final time today.  He also played the final stroke of the day, putting out on 18 before play was ceased for the day just before 10pm.

A big thank you to these two greats for all of the enjoyment they have given to us all over the years.

Tomorrow will see play resume at 7am for those yet to finish round two.  Tiger has made the weekend...... only for a few holes though.  The third round will commence at 10am, with play being in 3's, and utilising a two tee start.  A bit more challenging than normal, as the 10th is about 3 kilometres away from the 1st.  Plenty of quick thinking, and re organizing by Rhodri Price and his team allow this to happen.  Great job Rhodri.  (That might help me get away with taking some photos)

Dustin Johnson leads the way at 10 under, one shot clear of Danny Willett.  Jason Day will resume on the 12th hole in the morning tied third at 8 under.

A great round of 67 sees Adam Scott within striking distance at 7 under.

Tomorrow sees us play golf at The Renaissance Club, our home for the past 4 days.  Here we will be playing a match against the home club.  Here's hoping for some good weather!!
