Gleneagles - Queen's Course

Our first game here at Gleneagles was a pairs match with the members of Gleneagles.  A 4BBB Stableford event, with the aggregate score of the teams determining the winner.
The match took place on the Queen's course.

Mike "Jarrod" McCann getting the Kingston Heath side under way on the first tee.

A view of the par four 1st green looking back down the fairway.

The short par three 2nd hole.

The first six holes here are usually a fairly strong start to a relatively short course.  The prevailing wind is normally into you on these holes, however today they were down wind.  This is the approach shot into the par four 4th hole.

A great view of the par three 13th from the tee of the fifth hole.

Gleneagles Head Professional, Andrew Jowett, teeing off on the par three 5th.

Another view across the 13th hole.

The drive on the long par four 6th hole.

The approach into the 6th hole.  The Queen's Course is a 1919, James Braid designed course.

My playing partners today, Katryna Economou, Andrew Jowett and Gemma Harrison prior to play on the par four 7th hole.

The green on the 7th hole.  The building you can see in the distance is the clubhouse of the "G West" golf course.

Another view across the 7th green.

Overlooking the green of the par four 10th.  A great start to the second nine.

Looking back down the par four 11th hole.  Some really menacing black clouds are rolling in behind us.

The approach into the par four 12th hole.

Across the green on the par three 13th.  The rain has started now.  This is the first of a pair of back to back par threes.

From the tee on the short par four 15th hole.  This is a great risk / reward short hole, in the same fashion as our 3rd hole is.  Fortunately the skies looked worse than what actually eventuated, and the rain had now stopped.

The par three 17th hole, complete with it's 55 yard long green!

The view from the tee on the par four 18th hole.  The Queen's course is quite a pretty course, and requires quite a bit of thought and strategy.  A very good one to have had our challenge match on.

Members of both clubs in the Mitchell room following golf.  The visitors were very kind to allow the home side to win again.  (I don't know why people say that Australian teams are all about sledging, we have been very nice to both home sides)  The aggregate scores being 305 for KHGC and 325 for Gleneagles.  There were some impressive team scores, with the best KH pair being Reg & Robyn Hanson on 45 points.

Both clubs pictured on the steps of the Dormy Clubhouse after a great day.  A big thanks to all of the Gleneagles members for coming out to play today, and to Andrew Jowett and his staff for their assistance in the organisation of the day.

Another gratuitous Ferrari shot.  This time a more traditional red one.  Tomorrow we play the other 1919 James Braid creation, the King's Course.
